Best Bars to Celebrate National Beer Lovers Day
September 7th is National Beer Lovers Day! To help ensure your celebration is as hoppy as can be, we’ve rounded up some of the very best San Diego spots to sit-back and enjoy a brew or two!
Backyard Kitchen & Tap
If you’re looking for a spot to bring your pooch, look no further than Pacific Beach’s Backyard Kitchen & Tap. Located just off the corner of Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard, this coastal American eatery has 20 beers on tap, which means plenty of options for celebrating! Order the Resident Chasing Citra, a bright and fruity IPA from Resident Brewing Company. With hints of melon, pineapple and tangerine, this brew would go perfectly alongside the AleHouse Beer Cheese Burger, with Applewood smoked bacon and a fried onion ring.
Tavern at the Beach
Tavern at the Beach offers a rather unique experience for brew enthusiasts, one that you won’t find at every bar. Booths are fitted with beer taps in the adjacent wall allowing customers to serve themselves with a direct “booth-side” hook-up to the keg room. This room is full of craft brews and complete with windowed walls so you can see all the action! Your table can choose between Green Flash West Coast IPA, Shock Top, Ballast Point Pale Ale, Kona Big Wave, Dox XX Amber or Bud Light. The best part? You don’t have to keep going up to the bar to order beers, your next pint is ready to pour when you are!
With locations in Pacific Beach, Oceanside and Carlsbad, Barrel Republic is the mecca for ultimate beer lovers! Step up to the bar and you’ll get a wristband, where you can load money to sample a large variety of different brews. At the Pacific Beach location, try the spookily smooth Dark O’ The Moon Pumpkin Stout, which is perfect for Fall. At Barrel Republic’s Oceanside and Carlsbad locations, you can also order food to enjoy with your beer tastings. Whether you prefer to sample a dozen different beers or find one you want to drink a whole pint of, there is no better spot to celebrate a day for beer lovers than Barrel Republic.
Pacific Beach Shore Club
Although they’re mostly famously known for their Red Bull Vodka Slushy, Pacific Beach Shore Club also has an extensive draft beer list, complete with weekly drink specials and stunning ocean views. Stop in Thursday, on National Beer Lover’s Day for $4 16oz Kona drafts like the Kona Big Wave Golden Ale or Kona Longboard Lager. If you’re heading in straight after work, take advantage of their Burger and Beer for $10 special, from 4:00 p.m. to close!
True North Tavern
Thursday is not only National Beer Lovers Day, but also marks the start of the 2017 NFL season and we can’t think of a better spot to celebrate than at True North Tavern. This bar features 25 widescreen TVs. Voted “Best Sports Bar” by San Diego’s Best Union-Tribune Readers Poll. With over 30 different brews on tap, you won’t likely find a more extensive beer list within the area. For a fruity bold taste, order the Rough Draft Grapefruit Weekday IPA, which would go great with the Famous Original Loaded Tots. Tater tots smothered in warm queso sauce, fresh cilantro, chipotle crema and salsa fresca, with the option to add chicken, bacon or carne asada, sound like the ideal Thursday night!
Union Kitchen & Tap
An extensive craft beer list, meals made from scratch, unrivaled style and comfortable ambiance are all excellent reasons why Union Kitchen & Tap Encinitas and Union Kitchen & Tap Gaslamp would both be perfect spots for drinks and dinner with friends. Before a night out downtown, swing by the Gaslamp and start your meal with an order of the Union Dry Rubbed Wings for the table to share. The appetizer comes in either house bourbon peach BBQ or spicy buffalo sauce, both of which would taste delicious with a glass of the light and smooth Lagunitas Pils.
If your group has plans to meet further north, reserve a table at the Union’s Encinitas location! The Thorn Street Tropic Daze, a moderately strong IPA would complement the Pesto Chicken Flatbread, made with oven roasted tomatoes, bacon and mozzarella. If pilsners and IPAs aren’t quite your style, both locations have plenty of porters, ambers, blondes and wheat beers to choose from.
Raise your pint glass and toast to #NationalBeerLoversDay at any of these San Diego favorites!
