Approximately 8 hours north lies one of our favorite breweries, Lagunitas Brewing Company. Petaluma is a difficult trek for many San Diegans to attempt. As adventurous as we are, it is difficult leaving the comfort of our laid back, rainbow wearing lifestyle. An 8 hour road trip might not be in the books but what about a measly 2 hours? This spring, the highly anticipated Lagunitas Brewery will be opening in Azusa. Until recent years, Los Angeles’ craft beer scene was left in San Diego’s shadows. Los Angeles’ craft beer scene has been expanding over the last few years and Lagunitas is putting their hands in the mix.
The opening of Lagunitas in Azusa (right outside LA) is another testament to LA’s craft beer progress. The new brewery will be monstrous, one of the biggest in the country! When all is built out, brewery, taproom, restaurant, music venue, community hub and production facility included, the space will be approx 250,000 sq. ft. At full capacity, the Azusa brewery will be able to produce 1.8 million barrels of beer per year!
Lagunitas will become a staple to the surrounding community, not simply as a watering hole but as a community center. The brewing company has always been a firm believer in community outreach. Monday and Tuesdays will be designated for local nonprofits to fundraise at their brewery, with no cost to them whatsoever. On top of becoming a community fixture, they will also become a music lovers destination. There will be live music every day they’re open. In the eyes of Lagunitas, live music is just as essential as beer. Did someone say road trip?
