Meet Jonathon Rielly, Brewer at PB ALEHOUSE
We recently got the chance to check out the new and improved PB Alehouse to learn more about the changes they have made since reopening. The vibe is still the same fun atmosphere it has always been, but the addition of award winning brewer, Jonathon Rielly has definitely helped put more emphasis on the brewing side of the business. Jonathon’s passion for beer and his dedication to the quality of his beers not only shine through as you speak to him, but you can taste it in his beers. With such high quality beers it was hard to pick our favorites, but if we were forced we would say the Law Street Lager & the Grand Ave IPA were on the top. Check out our interview with Jonathon below:
How did you get into beer and decide to become a brewer?
I got into brewing for a number of different reasons. Ultimately, it was because of my dad, who allowed me to help him brew at a young age. I enjoy the creativity that comes with brewing and seeing a project go from concept to finished project.
Did you actually go to school for brewing?
I got into brewing early, with a mom and pop startup company. I gained very hard learned brew and business knowledge there. In order to stay competitive, I constantly seek continued education, such as the UC Davis extension courses.
Where or who do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration is largely derived by rustic hop styles and some of my past spontaneous travel adventures.
Is there anyone in particular you would like to do a collaboration with and why?
My dream collaboration is with Figueroa Mountain.
What style of beer do you enjoy making the most?
My favorite style of beer to create is an Irish red…. I love the smell of the mash.
What advice would you give others that are trying to get into the industry?
I would tell someone entering this field to do your research, know your customers, and keep it clean.
