San Diego’s Craft Beer Industry Celebrates International Women’s Day

Thursday, March 8th is International Women’s Day! The craft beer industry celebrates women with an International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day each year. Female brewers and home brewers come together to brew some unique beers. We are especially excited to celebrate women by supporting some great local events. With each passing year we are proud to see the craft beer industry continue to grow into a more gender inclusive environment because when it comes down to it beer is for all!

International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day: ‘Unite Exotic’

The inspiration for Unite Exotic was born this summer along the Equator where IWCBD Founder Sophie de Ronde experienced a South American adventure with her partner. While sipping on a luscious fruity cocktail the “Exotic” theme for this year’s brew day was born. The goal of the day is for women who are passionate about beer to get together and brew. Breweries from all over the world are participating in IWCBD! Local San Diego Breweries and Organizations participating this year include: Burgeon Beer Co., Ballast Point Brewing Co., Pariah Brewing Co., Burning Beard Brewing Co., 2kids Brewing Co., Women’s Craft Beer Collective and Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity (QUAFF)

A Toast to Women

Celebrating women in the local community, 10 Barrel will be serving their Pant Suit Sour. Pant Suit Sour is a pomegranate sour, aged with gin botanicals from Ransom Distillery in McMinnville, OR. The celebratory beer was brewed by a group of women at 10 Barrel, spearheaded by R&D brewmaster Tonya Cornett. Stop by 10 Barrel’s San Diego Pub on Thursday, March 8th between 6:00pm-8:00pm to celebrate. All proceeds from the beer sales will be donated to Women Give San Diego, a local non-profit organization helping women and girls in San Diego achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Chingonas Drink Craft vol.4

Machete Beer House is celebrating Día Internacional de la Mujer (International Women’s Day) on Thursday, March 8th by paying homage to Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Indulge in great beer, support local vendors and learn about the first feminist author of the new world at Chingonas Drink Craft vol.4 starting at 5pm! Sor Juana aka Sister Juana was a self taught scholar who criticized misogyny and the hypocrisy of men.  At a time when women were expected to be obedient domestic servants she was a boundary pusher. All proceeds of select beers and t-shirts will benefit MANA de San Diego, a non-profit organization that empowers Latinas through education, leadership development, community service and advocacy.
