San Diego Breweries To Bring Your Out Of Town Friends This Summer

An unavoidable aspect of living in San Diego includes every friend you’ve ever had wanting to come to visit you whenever they get the chance. For example, I moved here a little over a year ago and have had visitors at my apartment at least once a month. Inevitably, when friends are visiting, craft beer seems to somehow be involved in every event. When your friends come to visit this summer, here are ten San Diego breweries you need to take them to.

Stone Brewing – Escondido

San Diego Breweries - Stone Brewing

Stone Brewing has become a craft beer powerhouse over the years and has used their success to create one of the nicest breweries in the world. At Stone World Bistro and Gardens, you can go on a tour of the brewing facility, enjoy a beer while walking in their exquisite garden or enjoy a meal at their world-class bistro. You could spend a whole day exploring and your friends will definitely be appreciative. Beer Recommendation: White Geist Berliner Weiss.

Kilowatt Brewing – Ocean Beach

You could come here just to be entranced by the neon lighting and psychedelic imagery in the taproom alone. Kilowatt is as much of a brewery as it is an art exhibit, but don’t let that take away from the fact they have some very creative and killer beers on tap. Put on your complimentary 3d glasses and enjoy their extensive variety of beer styles. Beer Recommendation: S3 Cucumber Sour

Belching Beaver – North Park

You can spend an entire weekend trying to hit all the breweries on 30th street alone, and Belching Beaver‘s North Park location is a great place to start. A photo-op at the San Diego mural, dog watching, Thursday night trivia and beer milkshakes are just some of the reasons you need to take your friends here. Beer Recommendation: Peanut Butter Milk Stout.

Pure Project  – Miramar

San Diego Breweries - Pure Project

Pure Project has become one of the most popular breweries in San Diego, and for good reason. Their typically limited-run offerings are absolutely delicious, so if you or a friend try a beer you can’t live without, I recommend purchasing as many cans as they will let you. Their tasting room is small, so keep this in mind and try to come during slower hours. Beer Recommendation: Any “murky” IPA they have on tap when you visit.

AleSmith – Miramar

This time-honored San Diego staple is filled with Tony Gwynn memorabilia, San Diego-themed beers, and an expansive newly renovated two-story tasting room. AleSmith has been around since the 90’s and is still producing some of the most quality beers in the country. The brewery includes food trucks, an outdoor patio with fire pits, and a barrel-aged speakeasy. Beer Recommendation: Speedway Stout

Modern Times – Point Loma

When visiting their Lomaland location, I suggest a cup of their artisan coffee at the Modern Times Cafe for a quick caffeine fix before you begin exploring their beer offerings. With so many different styles and great beers to choose from, I suggest doing flights here (which they will serve you out of a cigar box). Beer Recommendation: Donut Times.

Amplified Aleworks – Pacific Beach

This PB brewpub offers a combination of things you never knew you needed in your life: Beer, ocean views, greek food and rock n’ roll.
