Cheers to New Years and New Beers with Ballast Point!

Attention all craft beer lovers! Ballast Point just unveiled their 2018 release calendar. It’ll include longtime favorites, new beers, and new additions including new 16oz cans. How exciting is that? This year, Ballast Point will be introducing their beer selection in three distinct series: The Discovery Series, The Flagship Series, and the Explorer Series. They’re doing this in hopes to help navigate their wide portfolio of beers and find exactly what you’re looking for.

The Discovery Series

The beers in this series are classified as a way to “discover” Ballast Point through their approachability and exceptional quality. The selected brews are laid-back in style and drinkability. All the while being flavor forward. Ballast Point has updated the package design for the Discovery Series to enhance the beer’s artwork, nautical theme, and San Diego hometown pride. Not to mention, these beers are also under 6% ABV.

The Flagship Series

Ballast Point’s Flagship Series is true to its name. It includes signature beers such as Sculpin, Manta Ray, and Victory at Sea. They’re all pinnacles of their style and premium award-winners. These also carry higher ABVs, 7% and higher.

The Explorer Series

If you’re an beer adventurer, this is the series for you. This series is designed for those who are in search of bold, exotic flavors and styles, such as barrel-aged and sour offerings. These are limited releases and will vary in ABV and style.

Ballast Point will also be introducing two new beers this year, which are the Aloha Sculpin and Moscow Mule Ale.

Aloha Sculpin

Ballast Point used Brux Trois yeast to turn their award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis. The brew has bright and refreshing notes of mango, pineapple, and guava. It also has a slight haze and smooth mouthfeel. This delicious version of Sculpin will be a seasonal Spring/Summer release in their flagship series. Already dying for a taste? It’ll be launched in February, so the wait won’t be too long.

Moscow Mule Ale

This is Ballast Point’s take on the classic and refreshing cocktail, with ginger and tart lime in a light kettle sour beer. It’s an effervescent and aromatic brew, just begging to be enjoyed in a copper mug. This particular beer will be a Spring/Early Summer release in their Explorer Series.

Ballast Point enthusiasts will also be able to enjoy more of their beers in cans.

This year, they’ll include a rotating can 6-pack of their Discovery Series. It will include: Tart Peach Kolsh, Grunion Pale Ale, and Piper Down Scottish Ale. Unfiltered Sculpin IPA and Manta Ray DIPA will also be available in 12oz cans. Additionally, Sculpin IPA and Fathom IPA will be available in 16oz cans. Not only does it mean more beers, but more places to enjoy and buy them! However, as you may have noticed, some of Ballast Point’s traditionally year round beers such as Grunion and Watermelon Dorado will become seasonal. Similarly, Pumpkin Down, California Amber, and Big Eye will become draft only. They’re doing this to help make room for their new packaged offerings.

This is just the start of an exciting new year with more releases, events and projects on the horizon for Ballast Point. Be sure to stay tuned for all the exciting things that Ballast Point has up their sleeve!
